Translation
Let a person lift themselves through their own mind, not degrade themselves. The mind alone is one's friend, and the mind alone is one's enemy.
Explanation
There's something both empowering and sobering in this — no external villain is named as the primary obstacle. The verse locates both the problem and the solution in the same place: the ongoing relationship you have with your own mind.
Reflect
Has your mind been acting more like a friend or an adversary to you today?
