समोऽहं सर्वभूतेषु न मे द्वेष्योऽस्ति न प्रियः । ये भजन्ति तु मां भक्त्या मयि ते तेषु चाप्यहम् ॥
Translation
I am equal to all beings; none is hateful to me, none is dear. But those who turn to me with devotion live in me, and I in them.
Explanation
There's an interesting balance in this verse — impartiality at the baseline, but genuine mutual relationship remains possible through how a person chooses to engage. Equal regard for everyone doesn't rule out closeness; it just refuses to make closeness a matter of favoritism.
