Ashwin month, on the full moon day — typically October.

Sharad Purnima

What

Sharad Purnima is marked by preparing kheer (rice pudding) and leaving it out under the full moon overnight before consuming it the next morning, believed to absorb a special nourishing quality from the moonlight.

Why

The autumn full moon is traditionally considered the year's brightest and most complete, associated with the goddess Lakshmi and with a sense of fullness and abundance arriving at the close of the harvest season.

Preparation

  • Prepare a simple kheer to leave under the moonlight overnight
  • Spend time outdoors under the full moon if the weather allows
  • Reflect on where in your life you feel a sense of completeness right now
  • Share the kheer with family or neighbors the next morning
